American Society of Golf Course Architects
Endorses Historical Documentary Project From OnTour Media, Inc.

Denver, CO – January 28, 2004 – OnTour Media, Inc. announced today that its documentary video project, On the Course: The Architects and Architecture of American Golf has received the endorsement of the prestigious American Society of Golf Course Architects (ASGCA). The agreement encourages members of the ASGCA to work with the project’s producers and gives researchers access to ASGCA libraries and archives.

“The Society is looking forward to working with OnTour Media on this important project, which will fill a void in the history of American golf course architecture,” said Paul Fullmer, Executive Secretary of the ASGCA. “We believe that this video series is an excellent vehicle to help golfers realize the legacy of work achieved both in the past and currently by skilled and insightful golf course architects.”

The legendary Bobby Jones once wrote that, “every golfer worthy of the name should have some acquaintance with the principles of golf course design, not only for the betterment of the game but also for his own selfish enjoyment.” Jones went on to say that when a golfer has learned to study a hole from the architect’s perspective, he is much more capable of playing it correctly. The goal of On the Course, according to project producers, is to enhance the viewer’s golf experience by providing context and background knowledge that will allow him or her to make educated judgments about holes and courses and also to improve strategic thinking during the course of a round of golf.

“Scotland gave us the game,” said producer/writer Tom Ferrell, a founding partner at OnTour Media, Inc., “but in many ways America is the true birthplace of golf course architecture. The men who developed America’s classic courses set a standard for the world, and Americans continue today to lead in the field. Their stories are fascinating, and their work is well worth the detailed and entertaining look we will provide.”
